Why text alone fails

Even meticulous prompts miss critical detail

A 1,247-word prompt can specify bolt-hole coordinates, chamfer widths, and gasket groove depths. But no prompt carries every draft angle, thread pitch, and sealing-face tolerance that a manufacturer needs. Text captures intent — not the full engineering context.

Generate a CAD model of a valve cover — cast aluminium, overall envelope approximately 430mm long by 165mm wide by 95mm tall.

Twelve perimeter M6x1.0 bolt holes on a stepped flange, irregular spacing — measuring from the front-left datum: hole 1 at x=14 y=12, hole 2 at x=68 y=12, hole 3 at x=132 y=12...

Scans capture form — not function

A 3D scan produces a dense triangle mesh that looks like the part. But it has no idea which holes are M6 bolt holes, which surfaces are sealing faces, or which edges need a 2mm fillet. Geometry without design intent is not manufacturable CAD.
